At PwC China, we are upskilling those where the need is greatest through our ‘New world. New skills.’ initiative to help them adapt to the new digital era. While upgrading some of our existing education programmes with digital elements, we have also designed and developed new programmes which reach a much broader beneficiary group.
   

Shanghai Adream Charitable Foundation is one of the key charity partners that PwC China has been working with to help close the skills and opportunity gap for children and youth in rural areas of China.

For the third year in a row, Yiyou Center and PwC China have delivered “Digital Skills Training Camps” for college students about to enter the workforce. Each session lasts for about a week and helps young people familiarise themselves with the digital skills required in the job market.
  

Through online lectures, tutoring of students in small groups, teaching assistants and final evaluation of students' work by PwC China volunteers, skills such as data analysis and user journey design are taught and shared with university students, so that they are better equipped with the digital skills needed in today's workplace.
  

With about 200 volunteers from PwC China contributing nearly 800 hours, almost 1,000 students have received digital skills training from 2020 to 2022.

Transparency and good governance are crucial for the development of NGOs. Fully empowering NGOs can enable them to build a skilled team and gain governance capabilities to deliver professional services that benefit more people in need. Through a series of free capacity-building events, practical toolkits, pro bono or discounted professional services, and professional insights based on our extensive experience, we help NGOs improve their capacities, gain trust and achieve greater potential.

Financial literacy empowers people to manage their finances and make important financial decisions in a more effective way. Since 2015, PwC has partnered with La Violet Education Consultants Limited (LVE), a Hong Kong social enterprise with a vision to encourage teenagers to learn and strengthen their connections with society, and explore their own life goals and values. By utilising our core strength, we help younger generations gain the financial management skills needed for today, and the capacity to adapt to changing needs in the future.
   

In FY22, financial management programmes continued to be delivered to secondary students through video format to create a more flexible teaching arrangement. The programme includes a series of videos covering personal financial management and introducing concepts and applications of FinTech. Topics such as e-banking, big data, blockchain, technology, bitcoin and cyber security were covered in the videos to help enhance students’ understanding of the relationship between FinTech and daily life.
   

PwC’s volunteers are also featured in the videos to demonstrate how they integrate their work duties with technology, helping students to understand the working environment of PwC and have a wider imagination of the career prospects in the accounting and finance industry. These videos were shared with 23 local secondary schools benefitting over 3,600 students.
   

In addition, a series of in-depth interactive workshops on online chatbot application and development were carried out with six schools. 122 students were engaged to acquire both knowledge and hands-on experience which has enhanced their knowledge in the creation and operation of an online chatbot, the integration of financial concepts and technology application.

The pandemic has greatly impacted education and has changed the landscape of teaching and learning in recent years. It has accelerated the digital transformation in education, driving educators to integrate technology into teaching and learning. In FY22, PwC China collaborated with Esperanza Limited to upskill educators and students, equipping them with the skills needed to stay competitive in the digital era, and most importantly, to stay agile and resilient during the pandemic.
  

We sponsored 18 schools in Hong Kong to take part in the blended learning professional development programme. The programme aims to help educators to develop a local pedagogical framework for blended learning, enabling them to identify and understand challenges faced by students, as well as achievement gaps that were widened during distance learning.
   

54 teachers, 17 blended learning facilitators and about 3,600 students were engaged. During the 3-month project period, teachers and facilitators received over 9,100 training hours altogether and 3,600 students received 50 hours each of free access to a blended learning platform. PwC China’s professionals also volunteered to demonstrate digital tools in the webinar on Blended Learning Experience Sharing.
   

In support of mainstreaming coding education for students of all levels, PwC China also sponsored Esperanza Limited by introducing a coding and STEM virtual learning platform. The virtual learning platform enables schools to go beyond the traditional classroom setting to reach more students in different grades with greater flexibility in teaching and learning time, location and different levels.
   

Over 650 teachers and students from 123 schools were provided with trial licenses to the virtual learning platform, contributing over 1,600 hours. 

In July and October 2021, Henan and Shanxi provinces encountered extreme heavy rainfall and were severely affected by flooding. Concerned for the local communities, PwC China donated RMB 600,000 each to the Henan Charity General Federation and Shanxi Charity General Federation to support disaster-relief efforts and post-disaster reconstruction.

In early 2022, Hong Kong was hit by a severe wave of COVID-19. In response, the PwC Foundation donated cash and nucleic acid test kits worth nearly HKD 1.5 million in total. The donations provided rapid testing, direct financial relief and emergency food supplies for families and groups under financial stress caused by the pandemic.
  

During the COVID-19 outbreak in Shanghai in April 2022, we provided nearly RMB 800,000 worth of supplies to medical staff, sanitation workers, volunteers and residents in difficulty near our PwC offices, to combat the pandemic and respond to the urgent need for supplies.
